Watch: Awe-Inspiring Knocks By Harmanpreet Kaur

Harmanpreet Kaur, Indian Women’s Cricket team captain in T20Is and one of the biggest hitters of the game, turns 29 today. Whether we talk about Sydney Thunders of the Indian national side, the star cricketer has turned out to be a hero, time and time again, for every team she has played for.

The 1989-born has played 2 Tests, 81 women’s one-day internationals and 73 T20Is for India, and is marked as one of the biggest match winners of the nation where Cricket is a religion for almost everyone. Coming into this male-dominated field is never an easy task for any Indian woman, moreover making a name for yourself.

Harmanpreet Kaur has made her mark on many occasions and from becoming the first Indian woman to debut in Big Bash League to leaving everyone in ‘Awe’, she has done it all.

It’s difficult to count all the feathers on her hat but here is a ‘Maximum’ that left not even Adam Gilchrist but even the bowler, impressed and awestruck during a BBL game. Harmanpreet Kaur scored 47 runs in just 28 balls including two fours and three sixes.

Some of her achievements:

  • Harmanpreet Kaur is the first Indian woman cricketer to feature in Big Bash League.
  • She made her debut as captain against Pakistan in the 2012 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup final and the team ended up winning the title by 81 runs. Her 20-odd runs were the second highest score by any player in that match.
  • In March 2013, Harmanpreet Kaur was named as the ODI Captain when Bangladesh toured India. She ended the series on a high note with 195 runs under her belt, including a century and a fifty, at an average of 97.50 runs along with 2 wickets.
  • Harmanpreet Kaur’s career touched new heights in 2015, when she bagged 9 wickets (44/5, 41/4) in a Test match against South African women’s cricket team at Gangothri Glades Cricket Ground, Mysore and helped India to register a win by an innings and 34 runs.
  • On 21st December 2016, Harmanpreet Kaur gave an all-round performance by claiming 4 wickets for just 27 runs and then smashing a 21-ball 30 to help Sydney Thunder register an eight-wicket win over Melbourne Stars in Women’s BBL.

But that’s not all, her unbeaten 41-runs knock against South Africa in Colombo helped the Indian Women’s team qualify for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017.

Watch Harmanpreet Kaur scoring eight runs in the last two balls of that match.
