India vs Bangladesh Only Test at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad has kicked off with a bang and the 1st innings is going to haunt the Bangladeshi team for a long time now. When the proceedings started yesterday, we expected a back and forth battle between the two sub-continent team but, the looks of it, India is going to continue their dominance in Test cricket and visitors would not be able to register their first Test victory on Indian soil.
When Lokesh Rahul lost his wicket in the very first over after scoring just two runs, the humongous 687 score never seemed a reality. However, Indian fans and selectors were in for a treat as Murali Vijay was going to save them from the curse of finding a dependable opening batsman. From left to right, from long-on to the mid-wicket, Murali Vijay (108) played some exceptional cricketing shots and Cheteshwar Pujara (83) was perfectly complementing his partner on the crease.
After a 178-runs stand for the second wicket, Pujara gave his wicket to Mehedi Hasan and made way for the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. And what happened next is just mind boggling. Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane (82) steadied the innings from one end, while Virat Kohli played another captain’s knock from the other.
Before going back to the pavilion, Virat Kohli left India at the total of 495/5 and that was not the only thing he left behind. When Kohli had the handle with him, bowlers were trashed, gaps were invented, fielders were forced to chase the ball till the boundary and even the ‘Kookaburra’ was left in tatters.
After so much destruction, Virat Kohli (204) became the first ever player to score four double tons in four successive series, leaving behind Don Bradman and Rahul Dravid.
Bangladesh’s bowling attack would have thought that the worst has left but Wriddhiman Saha (106*), Ravi Ashwin (34) and Jadeja (60*) made matters worse for the visitors. At the end of first innings and a complete performance from Indian batting lineup, Virat Kohli declared the innings at 687/6, giving Mushfiqur Rahim’s men a never ending trail.
We have a whole India vs Bangladesh Only Test ahead of us but just the first innings has accumulated a long list of records and that too, very substantial ones.
As for Bangladesh’s innings, they were at 41/1 with Tamim Iqbal (24*) and Mominul Haque (1*) at the crease at Day 2 stumps.
