India Smashed The Winning Dreams Of Australia In The 2nd Semi Final Of T20 World Cup 2007

India and Australia were going to clash in the 2nd semi final of T20 world Cup 2007. Pakistan has already won the first semifinal after Beating New Zealand. It was obvious that India had to overpower Australia in the game and beat them to stay in the competition. Two matches away from the first Trophy of ICC T20 World Cup 2007, the excitement and the pressure was at its peak. In the evening of 22 September 2007, the audiences were gathered in the Kingsmead Stadium at Durban. The hearts of the fans thumping and the passion was running down in every nerve. Every fan was yearning for his/her team’s win.

India won the toss and Captain M S Dhoni decided that India will bat first. The team was changed again, Yuvraj Singh got back to his position that left Dinesh Karthik again out of the Indian Team.

Shane Watson was ruled out of the tournament with a hamstring injury and Brad Haddin replaced him for the tournament.

Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir set the foot on the ground and the Match started. The opening overs of the match were not that thrilling and the opening batsmen could not collect the runs they were expected but as soon as Yuvraj Singh walked in, he changed the calculations and turned the match on winning side. Yuvraj smashed 70 runs off 30 balls by hitting 5 boundaries and 5 sixes in his innings. After a sluggish start, India got it all together and ended its innings with a total of 188 runs with the loss of 5 wickets.

But the innings of the Australian team was left and 188 runs were not enough to make this game rough. Australian openers Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden walked into the ground and the second innings of the match started. While Gilchrist was having trouble in facing Indian bowler Sreesanth, Hayden smashed 62 runs off 47 balls. He smashed 4 boundaries and 4 sixes. Team Australia was not ready to hand the game without a good competition. Andrew Symonds also scored a good total of 43 runs off 26 balls including 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. Australian batsmen lacked momentum and India bowled well. The innings of the Australian team ended at the total of 173 runs with the loss of 7 wickets. Australia lost the match and India entered in the Final to compete against the arch-rivals Pakistan.

The Indian fans were throttling with excitement as the team entered in the final of the tournament. India won by 15 runs and the next match was to be played with the Pakistan for the final win.
