ICC Champions Trophy 2017 has already got one of its finalists in the form of Pakistan after the team registered a comprehensive win over England at Cardiff by eight wickets on Monday. This has shifted the focus on India vs Bangladesh match which is the second semifinal of the tournament and the Defending Champions will enter as the favorites.
The semifinal of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will also be Yuvraj Singh’s 300th ODI for India and the player will join the likes of Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Mohammad Azharuddin after achieving this milestone.
Yuvraj Singh was just as fierce defeating cancer as he has been against any bowler from any corner of the world. Seventeen years ago, in one of the editions of ICC Champions Trophy, the southpaw made his first mark in International cricket, that hasn’t been forgotten even now. His stunning assault with the bat against the mighty Australian team in Nairobi left viewers in awe, and after that, a tumultuous ride followed both on as well as off the field. Yuvraj Singh, still in his teens, became one of the youngest members of the Indian team and a part of a group that brought fielding revolution in modern Indian cricket.
Cut to present, Yuvraj Singh is now 35 years old and is not the best of fielders on the ground, however, one thing that has remained the same is his batting which is the same reason why he commands a respectable position in India’s middle order.
We recently got a hint of what Yuvraj Singh still holds in his bat during the opener of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 campaign for India against Pakistan. Yuvraj Singh registered a 53-runs knock on just 32 balls that included eight of the cleanest boundaries and a huge six into the crowd.
Now as India move into the semifinal against Bangladesh, fans are expecting Yuvraj Singh to shine once again and make his 300th ODI even more memorable. It’s not just fans, Yuvraj Singh’s best buddy and Indian spinner sensation Harbhajan Singh is also hoping the same and he sent an emotional message to the player before the India vs Bangladesh game Edgbaston, Birmingham.
Harbhajan Singh became a little nostalgic while addressing Yuvraj Singh in the video as he recalled both of them being kids and the thought of coming this far ever crossing their minds. They never thought that there will be a day when Harbhajan Singh would have played 100 Test and Yuvraj will be playing his 300 ODIs wearing Indian team’s jersey.
As for the match itself, since Pakistan is already in the ICC Champions Trophy Final, India’s win over Bangladesh could make the final one hell of an event and that is what everyone is expecting.
