Glenn Maxwell has shared very candidly, although there are no confirmed answers available at this point in time, that when the current edition of the Indian Premier League is over the players may go find a temporary refuge elsewhere, outside of India.
What is confirmed news and can no longer (and must not) be overlooked is the fact that the overall number of cases in India at this point have already crossed the 3.87 lakh mark, a figure that just days ago stood at 3.52 lakh cases.
If there ever were tough times confronting India, then this is that time. Something must be done. The nation is trying its best to stand together and make judicious usage of available resources is treading cautiously.
Wherever one goes or whatever one sees, it all comes down to gasping hospitals, and an increase in the overload of hospitals. It’s not unknown anymore that just a few days back, there was endless chaos surrounding the on-ground supply and availability of oxygen cylinders.
Cricketers, it must be noted, are a well-fed and handsomely-feted community. They have it in their means to find safer shore or explore greener pastures.
Therefore, what was shared by Glenn Maxwell recently seems appropriate and fair.
The dashing right-hander from Victoria who’s been firing all cylinders this IPL 2021, is of the view that soon, upon the IPL is over, there’s a big chance that Indian, Australian as also Kiwi and English players might go elsewhere for the time being.
Speaking exclusively to The Final Word Podcast, here’s what the big-hitting right-hander, aptly described as “Big Show,” had to say:
“We just want to find a way to go home. The BCCI, both governments can work a solution. If we have to wait bit longer, so be it but there is a way to get home at some stage.”
He would, furthermore, add the following in his view of where might the cricketers be immediately after the famed edition of the Indian Premier League ends:
India and England are going to play in England. Worst comes to worst, we have to wait in England and try and find a way out in that chartered (flight) and get out of India. I am sure a lot of guys will try and put their hand up in trying to do that as well.
But it must also be noted that once the IPL ends, then both Indian as well the New Zealand teams are set to fly to England, which is where they will lock horns in the finals of the famous World Test Championships. The final will be taking place on June 18.
Meanwhile, a report from prominent news platform NDTV happened to share the following:
England players in the ongoing league are expected to accompany them in the same flight. BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal said the idea could be explored as BCCI looks at several options for all the overseas players’ safe passage back to their respective countries in times of travel restrictions.
To sum it up, the proposed idea, as suggested by Glenn Maxwell also happens to make sense. If one has the means to park himself at a safer place escaping the chaos and leaving the troubles behind, then why not? Frankly speaking, if we commoners too had the means, would we not have thought about a similar course of action?
