Faf du Plessis Found Guilty and Virat Kohli is also on a Sword’s Edge

Faf du Plessis, the South African Skipper, has been found guilty on Tuesday in a case of ball tampering. He has been fined 100% of the match fees but will still be able to play the next Test match against Australia in Adelaide.

Du Plessis was charged under clause 2.2.9 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct by ICC Chief Executive, David Richardson. The clause deals with “changing the condition of the ball” in breach of the Laws of Cricket. However, the Laws of Cricket allows a player to”polish the ball, provided that no artificial substance is used.”

The South African Skipper, on the other hand, used lolly to shine the ball in the second test match of the ongoing South Africa vs Australia series. All this was recorded in a video that went viral after the match and the same video was enough for the council to mark him guilty.

Meanwhile, a footage has also emerged, showing Virat Kohli using the same tactic to shine the ball from one side, which may have helped the bowlers in swinging the ball during the first test against England at Rajkot.

In the video, Kohli can be clearly seen putting his finger in the mouth and using a mint to shine the ball from one side. However, the action went unnoticed by the umpires (the scenario was same in Faf du Plessis’s case) and the match ended with a draw.

If we go according to the recent fine on Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli may come under the scanner of International Cricket Council (ICC) and if found guilty, his famous sportsmanship will definitely get affected.
