David Warner has entered his name in history books by scoring a hundred in 78 balls and 117 minutes in the 3rd test match against Pakistan, giving this match a blazing start that can even put a T20 game to shame.
David Warner is Australia’s prized possession who gave all the attendees of Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) an entertaining innings worth every penny while scoring his 18th Test century. Warner punctured Pakistan’s bowling and defensive fielding while scoring the first 50 runs off 42 balls. Lunch break being looming upon the session, David Warner increased the pace and completed the hundred within next 36 balls and scored a total of 113 runs before going back to the pavilion with the help of 17 boundaries out of which 5 were smashed while scoring the first 50 runs.
He removed his helmet while running for the 100th run and did his trademark leaf to celebrate the record with vigour and excitement.
And this is how Sydney Cricket Ground became a part of his celebration.
1. Warner is the first player to achieve this milestone in Australia and coincidently, this is the 410th test match being played in the nation.
4. David Warner is the fourth Australian to achieve this feat, Victor Trumper in 1902, Charlie Macartney in 1926 and Sir Don Bradman in 1930 being the other three.
5. Warner became the fifth batsman to score a century before lunch and the milestone was last achieved by Pakistan’s Majid Khan 1976.
5. He also joined Virender Sehwag and Brendon McCullum in the list of opening batsmen by scoring the fifth highest test century on 78 balls, however, David Warner also holds the record of fastest test century by an opening batsmen as he scored a ton off 69 balls against India at Perth in 2012.
17. David Warner has scored a fifty for the 17th time within 50 balls and there is only one player in Cricketing history (Virender Sehwag-20 times) who has scored more fifties with a strike rate of 100 or more.
18. Since his Test debut in 2011, Warner has scored 18 test hundreds, the most by a batsmen since 2011.
Coming back to the ongoing Australia vs Pakistan Test Match, the hosts were at 365 runs with the loss of 3 wickets at stumps, Matt Renshaw (167*) and Peter Handscomb (40*) being at the crease.
