Cricket Australia Has Suffered Financial Losses During The Lockdown

Time is the only factor. Nothing else but time. All are desperately hoping for things to get better. It can only happen in the due passage of time. True for the times much of the world currently finds itself in, true also for the very format in Cricket that we lust after, in these times marked by rampant decline of viewer attention, things already stifled by the era belonging to instant gratification.

The way a Test specialist is required to bat time, to hold the ground a session after another amid the big realization that the worst can come and that not too many wickets are left in the game (as well), the only thing the devoted fans expects of the batsman holding charge is to bat, soldier on. And on.

Therefore, nothing else but time- at the end of the day- is also the answer to the current woes that have engulfed our worlds. But it must not be forgotten that several key organizations have suffered from aching losses due to much of the cricket action remaining suspended in these days of the Coronavirus-imposed lockdown.

So what’s exactly the kind of loss that hurt Cricket Australia. Cricket Australia, lest it is forgotten, are one of the leading power house of the game, alongside the respected England Cricket and the ever-powerful BCCI (Board Of Cricket Control In India).

Apparently, a recent statement from none other than the Cricket Australia Chief Executive gathered much attention, amid testing times for one and all.

Mr. Kevin Roberts highlighted that a slew of financial losses hurt the growth and standing of Cricket Australia, one of the forces to reckon with.

India Today, meanwhile, elaborated more on the trending story at this point in time from the international cricket world, “Cricket Australia announced plans to lay off almost 80% of staff on Thursday, putting them on 20% pay until June 30 when it is hoped more will be known about how long government curbs put in place to control the coronavirus will last.”

That being said, there were other telling revelations shared by the honorable chief executive who would further add the following:

impacts on the sports industry of the coronavirus pandemic are bigger than any one sport”.

“We are conscious of the impact this will have on Australian Cricket and are working hard to manage that proactively.

“We will continue to seek advice from medical experts and relevant government agencies to ensure the health and safety of our people, volunteers and communities, and to return to business as soon as possible.”
