There are days where you are at your absolute best and then, there are those where you’d much rather not want to even step out for there’s a lot of harshness out there to deal with. Not even two full days had since the triumphant news of Sri Lank beating a much stronger Indian side, even though the outfit were dubbed a C ‘grade’ string of talents visiting the island paradise, that Sri Lankan cricket came to be hit by a hefty blow. Truly speaking, there’s no other way to put it too. So the key question is what this hard hitting blow of sorts that’s strangled the Sri Lankan cricket somewhat?
Not one or two but three important players of the Sri Lankan cricket contingent lap have been banned from the sport. Wait! What? Is that even true? Did something like that actually happen for real and why so?
Though first up, let us find out the cricketers who have been put to a cricketing ban that is going to last for one full year.
Apparently, none other than Niroshan Dickwella, Kusal Mendis, as well as Danushka Gunathilaka have been placed under a year long ban from Sri Lankan cricket. But what had happened and what led to all of this and all too suddenly?
The key trio of Sri Lankan cricket, it appears, have been found guilty of breaching cricket’s stand against COVID 19 pandemic, that’s the bio-bubble.
Let’s take a simple example- last year, when the West Indies cricket team arrived in England to kickstart International Cricket, though not before the month of July, all West Indian members of the traveling contingent were placed inside a bio-bubble, which is a safe zone that one mustn’t trespass with the virus and its threat all too prevalent out there.
Cricketers placed under a bio-bubble are subjected to some restricted movement only so they neither catch nor spread the threat of carrying this treacherous virus that has wrecked havoc like no other tragedy in modern human history.
And even then where a cricketer doesn’t learn from his mistake and is guilty of breaching the bio-bubble, then one is afraid, he or she has to cop up a strong penalty, the likes of which we are seeing at moment this vital trio of Sri Lankan cricket embrace.
Not the kind of news that would help the most loved sport in the magnificent Buddhist land, not the kind of example you want to be setting to the upcoming or younger talents too in any which way!
The shocking development that came to light was that the trio were found guilty of breaching the bio-bubble on their recent tour to the UK.
The following information came to light thanks to a news report published on the Hindustan Times:
During the England tour, all three cricketers were caught on camera on the streets of Durham which was a bio-bubble breach. As a result, the trio was sent back home midway into the tour.
Earlier on Thursday, a disciplinary committee headed by a retired judge had recommended two-year bans for Mendis and Gunathilaka along with an 18-month sanction for Dickwella.
However, a day later, the SLC committee decided to ban them from international cricket for one year, and six months from domestic cricket. There will also be a suspended sentence of one year which will be valid for two years provided there is another transgression from the players.
