Best cricket shots are the ones that win you big games and if a player executes them perfectly, it makes for some of the best moments in history as well. The gentleman’s game used to draw in cricket fans in huge numbers to the stadiums to watch their favorite stars play exquisite cover drives and wristy hooks, as it was the matter of perfect timing as well as great anticipation.
However, the game of Cricket has changed big time and the best cricket shots that most of us would remember will be ones that skyrocketed into the stands before producing a big thump with the bat.
The pull shot, the cut, the hook shot and the lofted straight drive are some of the examples of the best cricket shots through which batsmen try to send the ball out of the ground. Each of these best cricket shots requires different technical approach while also needing plenty of practice.
However, with the introduction of T20 cricket, the approach of every batsman has changed as the format needs a higher run rate and there is no scope wasting more than a couple of deliveries to get settled at the crease.
Gone are the days when batsmen were known for their grounded shots which opened through the field as today’s stage doesn’t permit players to stick to text-book shots. The enormous run chases and that too at a high run-rate urge the batsmen to move out of the crease, not necessarily forward, and attempt things out of the box to get the show on a roll and send the ball past the fielders and right it to the stands.
Moreover, when a batsman is on the pitch, a lot more is under the scanner than his score, most important being how well he plays his shots. While some attempts turn out to be the best cricket shots ever, others result in losing the wicket and gradually losing the match.
However, over the years, we have some best cricket shots that were orthodox yet simply too amusing and here those strikes that broke the shackles of a batsman as he expressed power over the bowlers.

Be it MS Dhoni’s helicopter shot or Kevin Pietersen’s switch hit or Tilakratne Dilshan’s Dilscoop, these cricket shots have been a big source of entertainment for us cricket fans and since the players have adopted this approach in their natural game, we also have the opportunity of having a field-day in 50-Overs cricket and sometimes, even in the Test format.
Yes, the competition has become cut-throat but where is the fun in conventional play, these days?
