Ashwin Becomes No.1 Test Bowler & All-Rounder, Kohli Moves Up To 12th Spot In Batting Rankings

Indian proficient off-spin bowler Ravichandran Ashwin’s outstanding bowling performance of 7 for 83 in the second innings of the first test match against the hosting West Indies at Antigua hoisted  him at the top spot in the bowler’s current International Cricket Council (ICC) Test rankings revealed on Tuesday.

The Chennai-born cricketer not only claimed the Top spot in bowlers ranking but also his brilliant hundred (113) in the 1st innings of Antigua Test against West Indies, which Indian team won by an innings and 92 runs, led him to ‘the best Test all-rounder’ spot.

Pakistani leg-spinner Yasir Shah, who had seized the number one Test ranking for bowlers only last week with a 10-wicket haul in the first Test match against England at Lord’s, was replaced by Ashwin.

Yasir, who took only one wicket in the second Test against England, has dropped to fifth spot below James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Dale Steyn.

Ashwin earned five points following his destructive bowling spell in the first Test, while England’s James Anderson earned seven points.

Indian Test skipper Virat Kohli‘s maiden double ton against West Indies at Antigua, which established the base for his country’s biggest win outside the subcontinent, has helped him move two places up to No.12 in the Batsmen’s Latest ICC Test Rankings while opening Shikhar Dhawan gained four places after a brilliant innings of 84 in 1st innings.

Ashwin, became only the third Indian top-ranking all-rounder after Vinoo Mankad and Kapil Dev, has bridged the gap with Shakib Al Hasan of Bangladesh who is ranked second. Ashwin has moved up to his career-best 427 points and created a 43-point gap with Shakib.
