May there never be a day where there is a shortage of beer anywhere in the world. Not a desperate plea from the end of an inveterate drinker; simply a humble wish, if you could put it that way, from someone who truly understands that beer is, quite honestly, one of the most celebrated drinks in the whole wide world.
There’s always a warm cup of tea (or chai, as it is called in the Indian sub-continent) to begin one’s day. There’s coffee anytime and anywhere in the world to help you get through the day and preside over meetings and the post luncheon-dicscussions.
But there’s beer and more of it when there’s the beautiful bond of friendship involved between people. Whether it’s your lovely Ale, the vintage Pale ale, the famous stout or the classic lager, there’s so much of it to love anyway! It can be said that beer can simply make you confused and fall in love at the same time for there’s so much variety in there.
There are few drinks that make individuals bond over better than a beer served chilled, right? What would you say to that?
But hang on, here’s something that doesn’t really seemed to have gone right. Apparently, where it stands right now, then there seems to be a shortage of beer in Bengal.

Hey, what? A shortage of beer in Bengal? Yes, that’s absolutely correct: just when one would’ve thought that now the summer heat is becoming quite simply unbearable with each passing day and hence, why not open a chilled beer- it seems that that has turned out to be a terrible idea. For there’s a dearth of beer in Bengal.
One’s simply not sure as to where to get one’s hands on it. As a matter of fact, this isn’t some ordinary shortage of beer in Bengal that one can get over in the next coming days, but rather an unprecedented supply crisis.
All of that being said, here’s what a latest news report published on the Hindu had to say on the ongoing matter that has touched every nook and corner of India’s glorious east:
Sources in BEVCO, the state corporation which has monopoly in the supply of alcoholic beverages in the state, said the crisis of beer started last week and reached its peak on Sunday when the mercury touched 40°C at many places and the demand for beer doubled.
According to BEVCO sources, the routine monthly demand of beer during the summer, till last year, hovered around 1.8 crore bottles in the whole state.
Since March this year, the demand started increasing rapidly and now the approximate demand in April is around 2.5 crore bottles.
“There are three major brewers in Bengal producing beer at the peak of their capacity but that is not enough. Some beer companies are importing beer from breweries in other states but that’s also not enough too at a time the mercury is around 40°C,” said a senior BEVCO official, adding that there was little they could do to augment supply.
But that being told, it is believed that among the foremost reasons that may have led to a massive outage in the supply of beer is the slashing of the beer prices.
The prices of beer were slashed, would you believe it, by as much as 30 per cent.
A few weeks back in the day, there was a tremendous rise in the demand for beer given this massive slash of the prices. People were stocking large volumes of the famous fuzzy drink. Moreover, there are other reasons to that would’ve have led to the shortage of beer in Bengal, most noticeably, the delay in the production schedule.
The same is being linked to the current dearth of the beverage in the state that’s home to the city of joy, where there’s no joy right now owing to the absence of beer at the moment.
