Do Almonds only help in improving memory?

“Why don’t you eat almonds? In fact, take a little bit more than the usual sum you eat. Eating almonds is a healthy thing to do, make sure to intake more and more of almonds every now and again. Oh wait, did you take that almond pack I kept for you on the table?”

Aren’t these some of the constant instructions that we are fed every now and again? After all, almonds-according to mothers and other ladies in the family-as per normal is a great thing to do. It should be if you asked most ladies in an average household, a habit worth inculcating in one’s routine.

And there are plenty of benefits that one keeps hearing about eating almonds anyways. The most common and important thing- almost reading like a customary notice on a school board regarding an examination- about eating almonds is that they improve memory. Think about it from a common standpoint. There’s so much to remember, so many important memories to conjure and capture in our minds that it’s nearly a great asset to have a sharp memory.

Whether one’s engaged in academic pursuits or occupied in professions where number-crunching and stat play a key role, according to popular advice- eating almonds- can keep one in good stead.

But, that told, is this the key advantage of eating almonds. Surely, there could be other perspectives worth exploring.

So what’s the key essence to munching down five to six peeled almonds kept safely by grandmom in that bowl on the table each morning? For starters, in addition to vitamin E, folate and fibre, these are essential nuts in the sense that they contain phytochemicals. So what does this exactly do? Well, these phytochemicals act as antioxidants in the brain to aid in combating inflammation.

Now, that’s a positive first, isn’t it?

Some researches have also linked regular consumption of almonds to slowing down age-related brain decline, where the cognitive abilities of the mind and brain slow down with the passage of time.

A big advantage of eating almonds is that they are an effective antidote to counter dangerous brain-related conditions, such as the Alzheimers disease. If you happen to be reading or are in touch with normal health bulletins, then you’d find that more than any other age-related condition, it’s Alzheimer’s that cast a looming concern over so many elderly out there.

An important reason behind consuming almonds regularly is that not only do they contain nutrients that help in improving memory but also help in improving overall brain-health. Here’s how a simple pattern works: about eight to 10 almonds soaked in water overnight and consumed in the day works effectively.

The more you read about almonds, the more you get to unlock a world of goodness, ever thought about it that way?

The Vitamin B6, also known as pyridoxine, helps in the metabolism of proteins, this further helps in utilising the proteins, in making them available for brain cell repair. And that’s not all. There’s more to almonds and brain-function than what appears generally.

Being loaded with Vitamin B means the promotion of the production of neurotransmitter chemicals that further improve communication between brain cells.

There’s also a rich presence of zinc in an almond. This is an essential mineral that boosts the immune system of the human body. And wondering what this does? It further helps in preventing bacterial and virus infections in the body.

An almond is also a rich source of Vitamin E

The presence of Vitamin E leads to slowing down of the cells in the brain that are responsible for memory. So while a large amount of consumption of vitamin E could mean adverse for the body, a modicum of almond would mean it keeps that deterrent in check.

But at the same time, whilst there are a plethora of positives behind eating almonds, there is also something to note that may not sound too enterprising, after all. Almonds are laden with a lot of many calories. In this case, if one is looking to lose weight, then perhaps, too much consumption of almonds would not make a lot of sense.

In this regard, only having four to five calories of almonds a day and throughout the week may suffice. But another interesting perspective about having almonds is that they can be used as a base to relish some fantastic milkshakes. And if you’re not a fan of the tantalising cold delight, then perhaps, having a glass of warm almond milk at night may not be such a bad idea, afterall.
