5 Myths About Eggs That Need To Be Busted!

Eggs have been in existence for longer than any human can even think of. More than that, they have been a breakfast favourite of many people for many years.

We all can remember the time when our parents used to tell us about all the good things that an egg possesses. It’s great for our mind and body, plus, it’s delicious and can be modified as per the taste of a person. There are so many things that one can do with one simple egg.

However, along with all of these amazing things, comes a lot of burdens. The burden of myths that have also been surrounding this poultry item for a long time now. Everyone believes in their set of myths surrounding the eggs, and it’s high time now that we actually bust a few of them.

Eggs are considered to be nature’s multivitamins and they need to be a quintessential part of one’s diet. While some have been constantly demonising the fat and cholesterol in them, various nutritionists have come out and stated that eggs are low in saturated fat and they have no trans-fat, only a small amount of cholesterol. Most of the fat present in the eggs are the ‘good’ unsaturated fat that we need to be healthy.

So, here 5 myth about eggs that need to be cracked, right now.

1. Washing your eggs before preparing them can eliminate the salmonella bacteria from them.

Myth busted: Salmonella bacteria is actually present inside an egg and not on the shell of the egg. So, washing the egg would not actually help in getting rid of the bacteria.

2. White eggs are much healthier than brown eggs.

Myth busted: Eggshells derive their colour from the pigments the hens produce because of which they come in various colours. Therefore, both white and brown have equal nutritional values to them and they’re equally healthy.

3. Eggs increase your blood cholesterol level.

Myth busted: Saturated and trans-fat (the ‘bad’ fats) actually impact your blood cholesterol level. As per various studies, saturated fats and cholesterol in eggs have little to no effect on cholesterol levels in your body.

4. One should buy eggs from local farmers as opposed to big grocery stores.

Myth busted: There’s nothing in the world that can produce an egg, except for a chicken, which can harbour the Salmonella bacteria. So, there’s actually no sure shot guarantee that an egg you bought from a local farmer is much safer than the one in the grocery store.

5. Having more than one egg a day can have an adverse effect on your health.

Myth busted: As per various recent studies, one person can have up to three whole eggs in a day, if only you don’t suffer from any cholesterol-related issues.
