How I Perfected The Art of Buying My Lingerie Online

If you are a woman reading this, you definitely would find these traumas intriguing

Yes, I call them that, because I believe that Lingerie is very ramp-esque , only sensual and for ‘special’ occasions. Some of my friends and colleagues beg to differ as in this modern age of creating demand and making everything essential and useful, there is little choice left not to conform to commercial norms.

When you are actually adorning the body God gave you with lingerie, I feels on the edge, for want of another word. I spend thousands of bucks for an itsy bitsy piece of clothing that is a wonder to look at and then I have to hide it with layers of shirts, blouses, sarees or dupattas! What’s the use then? My delicates on the other hand are often a very economical choice, comfortable to the core, easy on the eyes and serve all practical purposes.

With the advent of online shopping in a very big way, I was spoilt for choice. Everyone of you who ever went to one of those shops selling the usual bra and panty (along with camisoles, chemises, negligees, stockings and what not) must have realised that those brackets lined with paper boxes held only a very limited options.

Now, online is a WWW(Whole Wide World). I started with some popular sites and eventually figured out where to find the stuff I really liked. By like I mean what I could wear every day, with ease, for hours and not cry over strap marks and sore skin at the end of it all. But before I could figure out how to buy the perfect size individually for uppers and lowers I had to play a lot of games of chance. Some times I ended up donating ill fitting sizes to those more in need(read sisters, cousins and friend), mind you in the original packing, declaring them as gifts.

The process of perfection was as follows:

1. Go online to a specific site and ascertain size as per guidelines mentioned therein. This differs most of the time. So you have to remember what size to order on which site.

2. Choose favourite brands, remember what size you are according to each one. For all you know your modest 38B could turn out to be 40 A if the manufactures is based anywhere east of the country. No offence.
3. Become an expert at reading pictures. Now, this is a real talent and after multiple failed attempts I can actually tell the feel of the fabric by just looking at it.

This prevents disasters like expecting a soft squishy fabric by reading ‘cotton mix’ in the description but ending up with a slippery non absorbent material which feels like cheap tissue in your hands.
4. Guess your correct size by looking at what size the model is wearing and the site says she is wearing. If the model looks average(as per what ever standards you are following) and the site says she is wearing a size S, and you believe you are quite over and above average that means you should buy two sizes up, ie, L.

Here is where we falter. Average in the normal world is M, so your size should be….you guessed it! XL. Keep your pride aside and go on and order XL, no one is going to read labels behind you back till the time the goods look presentable.
5. If it looks good….buy it. It will fit somehow.

Now, after almost three years of on line binging, and a kaleidoscope drawer later I have still not figured how to manage sale time. Though most of the sites go on sale simultaneously, my favorite brands are not on sale on my favoured site or vice versa. Then, if I am fortunate enough to have my brand on sale, my sizes are first to run out. If I get lucky with the sizes too(Hallelujah) then I don’t find them in any colour or shade that would dare wear or worse, hang out with the laundry.

I have been brave, and cleared this hurdle course and come up triumphant. Well almost. Hope we can all gain from collective consciousness.
