10 Things Every 20-Something Should Stop Giving A Shit About

You know, there’s nothing more confusing than being a 20-something. Yes, even though these are considered to be the best time of any human’s life, they indeed bring in a lot of complications, responsibilities and self-doubt situations.

Many people in their 20-somethings are now going through what is called – Quarter Life Crisis. A counterpart to the mid-life crisis which is essentially what people in their 40s to 60s go through. It is a transition of identity and self-confidence that can occur in middle-aged individuals.

While earlier, there were different struggles that a 20-something went to, like not getting married before completing their education or being pushed into a life they despised, now the story is different. The struggles that 20-something faces today are different and too psychological to be true, but they’re having an adverse effect on one’s mind and body.

The 20-something of today gives a lot of shit about some of the weirdest and random things and that’s one of many reasons behind them having such an unfulfilled life (as they themselves state it).

We have accumulated 10 things that every 20-something should stop giving a shit about in order to be happy and more content with their hours, days, weeks, months and years.

1. The number of likes you get.

In case you don’t know, social media has turned into nothing but a source of excuse for people who are in need of validation from a bunch of unknown and even known people. Now, how does it matter if you got 10 likes on something or 200 on the other? Would it change your life and transform into something good? If not, then why should it even matter?

2. The number of friends you have.

With the course of time one realises that in terms of friendship, quality should always be more important than quantity. What is even the deal of surrounding yourself with people who don’t actually care about you and are just in it for something?

3. Not having a significant other.

So, 20’s are the time when people around you are getting in relationships, getting married and some are even starting their very own families, it’s also the time when a majority of people are escaping this bandwagon due to not having a significant other. If you want a boyfriend or a girlfriend, go find one. Stop spending the majority gabbing about how you don’t have someone while your other friends do.

4. The number of kilos you need to shed.

We all are constantly looking for a change in ourselves, some altercations here and there, but seriously, where is the end of it? Will losing those last 5 kilos make you content with the way you look? Stop defining your worth based on the numbers on a scale. There’s so much to you than those numbers.

5. Figuring everything about your career out.

You don’t need to have a safe, secure and happy career by the age of 25. There’s so much you need to do and go through before actually knowing what you want for yourself. One’s career and success should never be boxes to check off.

6. Failing.

Come to terms with the fact that failing in something is the most humane way of learning. The fear of failing pushes people around to an adverse amount, which is not good for anyone. Never fear to fail as you can learn from them and improve them in the future.

7. The money you make.

There’s a brilliant quote by Jim Carrey that states, “I hope everybody could get rich and famous and will have everything they ever dreamed of, so they will know that it’s not the answer.

Carrey indeed explained the entire phenomenon of money well for the world because money can never make one happy. You will do many things in your life that are so much more fulfilling and exciting than getting a bonus before everyone else. Stress less about the money. Stress more about your happiness and your experiences.

8. Getting older

Yes, you’re getting older. Yes, your mind, body, and health are going through some big changes. Yes, the changes have started appearing on your face, so what? Whether you like it or not, everyone is getting older and there’s no one can really escape this phenomenon of life. So, instead of spending a worrisome amount of time in worrying about a thing which is not in your control, try to embrace yourself and your life with all its flaws and mistakes.

9. Being perfect.

Let’s be real, no one is perfect, not even Beyonce. But you don’t see her crying herself every day because of this. Let go of the idea that you need to be a perfect person and accept your mistakes.

10. Future

Who knows what the future holds for everyone and while its very thought is indeed scary, worrying constantly about it is not going to solve anything. So, rather than constantly thinking about what will happen next, try to focus more on the things in the present.

Admit it or not, but we all go through these things, thoughts and think a lot about them, but till when? Where is the exact end to all of this?
