Super Interesting Women’s Day Facts To Commemorate This Special Day

Women are the building block of our society. Educating a woman educates an entire generation that comes with her. It is really important for a nation to empower its women and give them opportunities to achieve success in their lives. Our country has also encouraged women to strengthen themselves and try to become independent. Although a lot of work is still required, what we all can do is take a step towards equality and become allies in everyone’s journey and struggle. The courage and strength of women are celebrated as International Women’s Day on the 8th of March every year. And, today, we will be commemorating this day with some women’s day facts that have contributed to this day in becoming a reality and different faces that have made it. 

Women’s Day Facts

1. Women’s Day was adopted officially in 1975

The year 1975 was celebrated as International Women’s Year, and it was this year when the United Nations officially began celebrating International Women’s Day.

2. It is a combined holiday in some locations

Countries like Macedonia, Serbia, Albania, Uzbekistan celebrate Women’s day as a combined holiday.

3. Women’s History Month

President Obama, in 2011 declared March as Women’s History Month in the US.

4. Economic growth is directly proportional to educated women

It is pretty obvious that if the women of a country will be educated, it’d directly benefit the economic growth of the country. In more than 34 countries, it has shown that women education has resulted in 50% economic growth. Since women make up for half of the population, no nation wants only half of its population to be the drivers of its economy.

5. Girls would perish more because of child marriages

Girls are more likely to die mainly because of early marriages more than any other reason. Maternal mortality is the second main cause of death of girls between the ages of 15 to 19 years. With education and encouragement, this would be avoided. More than 60 Million girls were forced into child marriages in the year 2009, and thankfully the number has been on the decline, year after year.

6. Women are slowly catching lead

As of 2012 data, women hold more than 15% of presiding official posts in the government.

7. The life of a woman has more colours

As compared to men, women are able to recognize about 25% more colours and shapes.

8. Death during pregnancy is common

It is said that a woman dies every 90 seconds because of the complications of childbirth. They are not educated and also are underage, along with improper medical assistance and care.

9. They perceive more smells

Since ancient times, women have been in positions where they have to cook, gather herbs and also to take care of others. It has made women more sensitive to smells and scents.

10. Highest IQ ever

The top two highest IQs ever recorded belonged to both women. Marilyn Vas Savant has her name registered in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the highest IQ recorded at 228.

11. They have been inventors as well

Women have been responsible for several inventions and discoveries such as windshield wiper, disposable diapers, paper bags, non-reflective glass, dishwasher etc, the credit of which hasn’t been much given to them.

12. Child marriage rates aren’t dropping well

In the last 80 years, the rates of child marriages have gone down by just 30% in Middle East countries.

13. They are better conversationalists

Women are better at reading gestures, faces and voice tones. Thus, they are better social leaders and conversationalists.

14. More women working out than men in the US

There are about 2,09,000 men in the US who stay at home, and this number is significantly higher than the women there.

15. The first computer programmer was a woman

Ada Lovelace was the first person to recognize the complete potential of a computer and the first one to program it as well.

16. Women in Russia are more than men

There are 9 million more women in Russia than men.

Our society is consistently trying to better itself and the number one priority should always be given to the fact that each and every individual should be given the right to choose education and safety. Hopefully, we become better people and allies in paving this path for one another.
