The entire world knows how hard it’s been to fight against the dreadful COVID 19 virus. To some countries, in particular, it’s been nothing shy than a real war-like situation out there. Doctors have turned into warriors and medical facilities are nothing less than a war field out there. The patients battle on, some survive, and some live enough to witness the light at the end of the day. It’s been nothing less than a torrid time for the entire planet for the better part of a year and a half, ever since the virus hit the world. And now, even in the new year, there’s hardly been a respite from the treacherous virus whose new wave has dealt a major blow.
To countries such as India, the new wave of COVID has been a particularly haunting one. And with nations realising just how serious a situation there exists here in the heart of the sub-continent, it’s not hard to see the concern and solidarity outpouring from different parts of the world.
For instance, take Canada as an example. The country is hardly a stranger to India and its customs. Recently, a decision was taken by the Canadian government to illuminate the Niagara falls in Indian tricolours as a mark of support and solidarity. The simple reason being Canada realises the difficulties that India has been passing through particularly in the last few weeks with casualties rising every passing day owing to the COVID concern.
Decisively, therefore, the Niagara Falls, in the region of Ontario took to the popular microblogging platform Twitter to inform the general public that the supremely beautiful waterfalls shall be sparkling in Indian tricolours as a mark of respect, and to back India in its brave fight against the COVID 19 virus.
But the key question is what would be the time period until when the famous Niagara falls would be illuminated? To that end, the same would take place this Thursday from 9.30 PM at night until 10 PM.
That’s right- if you happen to see the great falls, then for a period of half an hour, you’ll see them sporting the majestic Indian colors.
The following is the exact message posted on social media from the end of Niagara Parks:
India is currently facing a surge in cases and losses of life resulting from COVID-19. In a display of solidarity and hope for India, Niagara Falls will be illuminated tonight from 9:30 to 10 pm in orange, white and green, the colours of the flag of India.
The Canadian gesture was greeted graciousness and warmth with several Indian Twitter users thanking the country in its bid to offer such a kind measure of solidarity. While some users hailed the ‘great gesture,’ there were others who thanked Canada for expressing support and solidarity during one of the toughest times in India’s recent history.
And if in case, you weren’t aware of just how serious a problem the new wave of COVID 19 has turned out to be in India, then here’s data from a report on the Republic World that might offer some help:
Meanwhile, India’s total active caseload has reached 30,84,814 and now comprises 16.79 percent of the country’s total positive cases. A net increase of 1,06,105 cases has been recorded in the total active caseload in a span of 24 hours. Eleven states cumulatively account for 78.26 percent of India’s total active cases.
