On Wednesday, an Emirates Flight EK 521 which was flying from Thiruvananthapuram, India, caught fire mid-air and crash-landed at the Dubai international airport. The accident took place around 12.45 pm local time which is 1.45 pm IST.
The reports suggest that the crash-landing was caused due to a mechanical failure in the plane after which the flight caught fire. The plane was flying with 282 passengers and 18 crew members on board. As soon as the plane caught fire all of them were immediately evacuated safely.
The images showed smoke billowing out of the aircraft.
Emirates Airlines’ official handle tweeted,’ We are extending full cooperation to authorities and emergency services managing the situation.
The Dubai Government informed that all flights departing from the Dubai international airport have been suspended and a four-hour network-wide delay is expected. The runways of the airport have been closed for any landings and take-offs.
The International airport of Dubai is by far the busiest airport of Mideast and in terms of International passenger traffic it is the busiest air hub in the world.
