More than being a place that would drive massive amounts of adventurists or driving globetrotters in wide numbers, it is one of the most naturally vivid landscapes in the whole of the world. In fact, there’s more to the beauty and greenness of this piece of land that attracts as much as it inspires one from within. If your idea is to be one with nature, then there perhaps couldn’t be a better place anywhere other than surrounding yourself with the splendid wide open green spaces that you’d find here.
Not too long ago, a place considered no less than a wonderland in terms of being a habitat to multiple living forms was engulfed in flames, going up in smokes, in a way none would have ever imagined. Life in the Amazon rainforests hasn’t quite been as complicated as what one saw recently, in the not too distant past.
A little over a quarter ago, much of the wonderful Amazon rainforest was up in smokes. Latin American institute- Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research suggested that as many as 16,000 active fire hot spots had been detected within the Amazon biome.
And as if the disconsolation felt by the Amazon rainforest, one also shared by the remainder of the world wasn’t enough to ignite grief surrounding how little have we done to change our environs for the better, in comes another piece of news that would leave one, undoubtedly, gutted.
There has been a rise in the level of deforestation in the Amazon rainforest of late.
The Amazon rainforest, it is worthwhile to remind everyone, is not just any other forested green area; it is, as a matter of fact, the world’s largest tropical rainforest.
But that said, where the fate of the somewhat subjugated tropical rainforest is concerned, particularly in the space of the last two months, that has been far too challenging, it doesn’t appear that one of the most enthralling parts of the world is pointing to a bright future.
That there has been a rise in deforestation in the Amazon rainforest isn’t the only cause of worry; that according to the numbers furnished by Brazil’s State space agency, there’s actually been a 100% increase in the destruction of the Amazon rainforest has made somber headlines.
But within a short span of the time, the current Brazilian President Bolsonaro was quick to rub his hands off the burning issue, one that actually warrants not only Latin America’s but the rest of the world’s attention.
Bolsonaro, who recently shot to headlines for making a wild claim that the force behind the burning of the Amazon was none other than actor Leonardo di Caprio, has been quick to maintain his innocence in the matter that is making national headlines in the country already.
Furthermore, Bolsonaro shared that none of what is happening to the Amazon rainforest- the rise in the deforestation in the Amazon rainforest- was down to any of his environmental policies.
Deforestation in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest last month jumped to the highest levels in 2015, according to government data.
A total of 563 square kilometers (217.38 square miles) of the world’s largest rainforest was destroyed in November, which is actually a 103% more than in the same month last year, according to Brazil’s space research agency.
From the month of January, until November- this year- it was suggested that an area that would actually be equivalent to the size of the Caribbean island of Puerto Rico was destroyed — an 83% overall increase in destruction when compared with the same period last year.
But all of that said, nothing could still paint a truer picture- perhaps even a blaring one pointing to facts- about the rate of deforestation in the country; a phenomenon that actually rose by 30 percent when compared to the last year.
