What is the new problem that China is facing, rather desperately trying to avoid? Does it have repercussions on the world? The latter being a pertinent question especially since given the outbreak of the virus, apparently from Wuhan, birthed a tragedy of mega proportions that continues to this day and it makes little sense to dwell on the horrid circumstances that it led to. But that being said, it’s important to take notice of a new concept that China has come up with in fighting a battle with germs!
Alarming as it may sound, truth certainly is, that this new turf far with germs involves pigs, that, at present, are being stuffed inside specific hotels, in order to restrict the animal’s contact with humans.
A popular concept known as hog biosecurity is currently reaching new levels in the country unpopularly known as one with the world’s largest population.
Specific hotels that are no fewer than thirteen storeys long (13) are being currently utilised so that pigs can be stuffed in there. What seems like a hotel, though, is primarily a condominium style complex. But would you be able to guess the number of animals that are currently being stocked in there?
Apparently, no fewer than 10,000 pigs are being located to this specific facility where they are bunked in together. There, they are placed under restricted access and have access to specifically prepared meals along with in-house veterinary services.
If all of this doesn’t sound surprising enough, then the following are some crucial details to have emerged from news platforms, one among them India’s revered NDTV that had the following to share:
The seemingly luxurious conditions represent a state-of-the-art approach to biosecurity in which pigs — the main source of meat in China — are shielded from viruses, including the devastating African swine fever that wiped out half the nation’s hogs in the two years before the coronavirus pandemic emerged.
Nicknamed “hog hotels,” these gigantic vertical farms are being built by companies, including Muyuan Foods and New Hope Group, emulating the strict controls major suppliers in other countries have used to prevent outbreaks of the devastating disease.
China is copying best-practices from Europe and the U.S. to close its biosecurity gap, said Rupert Claxton, the U.K.-based meat director at consultant Gira, who has been providing advice to farmers and businesses for two decades. “In 20 years, it’s done what the Americans took probably 100 years to do,” he said.
The above being told, the world also witnessed the lethal swine fever, especially in regions like Africa earlier on.
Truth be told, the last thing the world needs today is another outbreak of a dreaded disease. Not since the outbreak of the devastating yellow fever has the world witnessed another tragedy much like the COVID 19 pandemic, which, factually speaking, has changed the entire context of the entire world.

What’s required at the moment is to tread with absolute caution and to not abstain from the simple and basic rule- which is to avoid going out unnecessarily, especially to crowded places and to maintain social distancing. Self hygiene, it ought to be said, has never been more vital than at present- won’t you agree?
