Union Civil Aviation Ministry Working On Draft To Regulate Use Of Drones In India

Ever been in that spaced out moment where just when your best friend is about to insert the beautiful, diamond studded ring into the finger of his fiance, there appears a miniature helicopter like figure hovering over your head, apparently capturing the footage? Consider another situation. You are in your cousins wedding. Finally, after quite some effort as you manage you reach the food counter and have only just filled in the plate with your favourite delicacies, a mini flier descends closer on the surface capturing all that you’ve filled your appetizing menu. Wondering what it is? These are drones.

Today, we are in an age of high-tech security, where deploying drones has become the nearly a run of the mill solution. In fact, so common and visible is the usage of drones that as we speak, the Union Civil aviation ministry in India is working on a policy to legalise the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for recreational and commercial purposes.

Truth be told, everyone in the sphere of business and entrepreneurship has to man his goods and services. Security comes at a price and sophistication is the order of the day. Using drones to man one’s security needs is rapidly becoming a major problem solver. It is not only the governmental agencies that require it nowadays. With a herd of private businesses flourishing in different parts of the country, the dependence on drones is only going to increase once the union civil aviation ministry properly formulates a policy concerning the use of the same.

But once these are put into use- it is being reported- flying them at certain sensitive areas in the capital city will be banned. Consider places like Vijay Chowk- including the President’s estate, Parliament, Prime Minister’s house, as well as the North and South blocks. But at the same time where drones provide massive security cover, the possibility of them being manhandled or tampered with cannot be ruled out. Therefore the said ministry is also seeking technologies from different companies that can neutralise drones. Drones deployed by unforeseen forces can carry terror elements such as explosives. It is in these lines that the civil aviation ministry is working on a draft regulation that will allow the use of drones but at the same time with certain restrictions.
