India is a mystical land that holds a variety of cultures and traditions in its treasure trove. Where these cultures define the diversity of India, traditions have been put in different perspective. Where some think they are rich and their customs keep them alive, there are some who consider many customs as pointless practices.

There are many Indian customs people follow blindly but here are 7 who has the scientific reason behind them.

1. Why Men Keep Ponytail

Not only in India but in countries like Korea, Japan and China men keep a ponytail. For many years most of us thought that it is for religious purpose but it also has a scientific reason as well.

It all started with the rishis of the ancient age, they knew that our skull is the most important part of our body, so they kept little hair tied up in the middle of the skull as it keeps our brain functioning and activates the essential energies of the brain

2. Why Parikrama Is Practised In Temples?

It is said unless you do ‘Parikrama’ of all the idols/gods of the temple, your visit to the temple will remain incomplete. The practice does have a religious significance but it also makes us healthier.

Most of the idols or temple structures are made up of Mud, Wrought Iron and other metals, when we do ‘Parikrama’ we touch these metals because of which their energies get transferred into us and make us healthier.

3. Why Do We Fast?

It is a very common Indian custom, almost every big occasion consist of a fast and an alluring story behind it. A fast is mostly kept to pay homage to god but the scientific explanation behind it is interesting as well.

When we fast, we consume only water and fruits which detoxify and cleanse our stomach. Our body is not designed to keep on eating without giving it a chance to digest so keeping a fast makes our body healthier.

4. Why Do We Offer Water To Sun?

In many parts of India, people offer water to the Sun God in the morning and pay homage but it is not only about offering water to the Sun God, by doing so we soak the warm rays of the sun which provide us Vitamin D and are very good for our health.

4. Why Do We Touch Feet Of Elders?

Touching feet of the elders is a custom that has been followed in all the parts of the country. People pay their respect to their elder by doing so and it is said that elder’s blessings provide health and happiness.

Apart from that, when we touch feet of an elder person and he/she places her/his hand on our head,…. all the positive energies of that person get transfer onto us and we benefit exceedingly from it.

5. Why Do We Pray To Tulsi?

In many parts of India women of all ages pray to the plant Tulsi. It is said that doing so help them getting married and also help in having a happily married life.

But Tulsi has other health benefits too. It is popular to be an antibiotic and known to be an effective remedy against mosquitoes. It also sooth the throat.

6. Why Do Women Wear Bangles?

Bangles for Indian women are not only a huge style statement but also a custom. Married women wear bangle as the significance of their married life but there is a scientific purpose as well.

Wearing bangles presses all the nerves of the hand that keeps a woman’s blood circulation going. It keeps a woman’s health fit and fine.

7. The Reason Behind Piercing Nose And Ears

Piercing is becoming a big fashion statement in today’s time but initially it was done to activate the acupressure points of Nose and Ears that keeps blood pressure stable.
