The Truth And False Behind The Story Of Poor Food Served To BSF Jawans

Recently a video made by a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan went viral. The video showcased the kind of food given to the soldiers after and prior to their 10-hour long work shifts in some of the most rigorous and extreme situations. BSF Jawan, Tej Bahadur Yadav, posted 3-4 videos on his Facebook profile stating that the food served to the soldier is inedible and at times they have to go to bed empty stomach. Now, this is heart wrenching, we should fight over this, over the living conditions of our country’s soldiers.

Yadav blamed the corruption in the bureaucracy for their conditions, he also said that the government should not be blamed for any of this, as they don’t know about all the happenings in a camp. He asked everyone to share the video so that it reaches the Prime Minister and he gets to know about it. This is an issue which should be taken seriously and many came together to voice their support with Tej Bahadur.

People came together to spread this soldier’s message on the Internet and make his voice and issues heard. All of this got Minister of Home Affairs, Rajnath Singh’s attention to which he tweeted that immediate measures would be taken in support of the soldier.

Even the BSF tweeted that they have sent a senior official to look into the matter and the food served in the camps. BSF also released a statement in which they said that Yadav has been posted at Line Of Control which does not have the best of weather conditions that ultimately affects the taste. However, quality, quantity and variety has never been an issue with the jawans.

But now the soldier has been credited as a chronic alcoholic and a habitual offender of absenteeism by the BSF authorities. As per senior officials of BSF, Yadav has time and again violated the discipline in the camp and has behaved badly with his fellows as well as seniors. They also said that Yadav was supposed to be court marshalled in 2010, however, the step wasn’t put into action considering his family. Even DK Upadhyay, IG BSF admitted that while the taste of the food isn’t too great, they have never received any complaints about it.

Now, I have a question, even though TB Yadav is not a well-behaved, disciplined or even well-mannered soldier but does that account for serving bad quality food to someone who does an important and extremely excruciating job for more than our usual 9 hours a day? All of this blaming can simply be viewed in a way to distract people’s attention from a faulty and corrupt bureaucracy.
