The Last Coach Of Delhi Metro Catches Fire At Patel Nagar!

This evening, at 4pm, a coach of the Delhi Metro caught fire at Patel Nagar station. The incident which could have turned fatal, triggered panic among the traveling passengers of the Vaishali-bound train on Blue line.

The Blue Line  (Dwarka-Noida/Vaishali) of Delhi Metro Railway Corporation is one of the busiest lines. The smoke was seen coming out from the top of the last coach around 4pm in the evening and all the passengers were evacuated immediately.

A metro official stated that the incident was reported by passengers who were waiting for the train at Patel Nagar Metro station. The coach was safely evacuated and all passengers deboarded at Rajendra Place Metro station. No passengers were injured in the fire.

A report published in DNA stated that old high voltage electric wires above the coaches caused the fire.

DMRC ( Delhi Metro Rail Corporation) has ordered an  inquiry into the matter and the authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire. The fire disrupted the service or 10 minutes but train services on the Blue Line are running as per normal schedule now.

This is the first time when a metro train caught fire during operation on the Delhi Metro network. Delhi metro has a total daily ridership of 28 lakh out of which 12 lakh people travel on the Blue Line.

This incident for sure raises the concern over the safety of millions of passengers that travel from metro on daily basis.
