The Final Verdict On Nirbhaya Case Is Here

Nirbhaya case had shunned not only the country but the entire world. Everyone was talking about it, and for the longest time, people actually felt that this case might change the entire rape scenario and punishment, in India. However, like everything else, this case too had to see the dust of time and the fight that started in 2012, now finally, after 5 years, is seeing the result.

The Supreme Court on Friday gave their final sentence in the December 16 gang rape case and has confirmed the death sentence awarded by the Delhi High Court to the 4 convicts in the case.

A three-member bench, comprising of Ashok Bhushan, Dipak Misra and R Banumathi, heard the plea by the four convicts – Vinay Sharma, Mukesh Singh, Akshay Thakur and Pawan Gupta – and gave their final verdict on this inhuman case. While many wanted this decision to see the light a bit sooner, we can’t help but applaud that finally, it happened. Finally, the people behind the painful death of Nirbhaya will be punished. And, even though the rape situation in the country has not improved a bit, one has to appreciate that the arrival of a punishment like this, might bring the change we all want to see.

Like us, many people are also feeling the same. Even though the justice has been served after some 5 years, we still have a long way to go in order to make the women in our country feel safe. Twitterati shared their feelings on the matter and while some appreciated the verdict, some are still fighting for the punishment for the juvenile in the case, who has been freed by the court because of his age.
