1. Russian Defence Ministry plane crashed in Siberia.
Russian Defence Ministry plane IL-18 aeroplane carrying 32 passengers has crashed in Yakutia in Siberia. Weather conditions are said to be the reason behind the crash. Till now, the calculated fatalities have come up to be 27.
2. A 22-year-old hospitalised after asserted ragging in Kerala.
A 22-year-old polytechnic student from Kerala has been admitted to hospital after alleged ragging by seniors. A student of the Polytechnic Institute said that 9 students were forced to strip and exercise for more than five hours by their seniors as a form of ragging. Five out of nine accused are arrested by the Police.
3. India won second Hockey Junior World Cup Men title, for the first time in 15 years.
India won their second Hockey Junior World Cup Men trophy after 15 years, where they beat Belgium 2-1 in Lucknow. After this win, India also became the only team apart from Germany to claim Junior World Cup more than once.
4. Income Tax department has seized Rs 12 crore worth assets from a tea seller-turned-financier in Surat.
After an apparent tip-off, the Income Tax Department raided a tea seller turned moneylender’s house after which they seized Rs 12 crore worth unaccounted assets. The recovered items had, Rs 1.45 crore in cash which included Rs 1.05 crore in the new currency, Rs 4.92 crore worth gold jewellery, Rs 1.28 crore worth silver Inglot, Rs 1.38 crore worth ornaments and 1.49 crore worth bullion. The tea seller-turned-financier is from Surat in Gujarat.
5. Puerto Rico’s Stephanie Del Valle won Miss World 2016 title.
Stephanie Del Valle, Puerto Rico, won Miss World 2016 title and representatives from the Dominican Republic and Indonesia became respective runner-ups. Stephanie is the second Puerto Rican to win Miss World title after Wilnelia Merced won it in 1975. Priyadarshini Chatterjee, from India, was only able to make it to the top 20.
6. Australia won a test against Pakistan by 39 runs in Brisbane.
In this match, Australia made a world-record chase of 490-runs, a 28-year-old unbeaten streak at Brisbane’s Gabba ground, which they were able to protect against Pakistan. Even though Pakistan’s win was confirmed due to their exceptional performance, the last wicket changed the entire game. Australia’s skipper Steve Smith ran out Yasir Shah at 33 runs and saved their record. Man-of-the-Match title was given to Asad Shafiq from team Pakistan.
