RBI Restricts Deposit of Old Notes to Rs 5000 and 5 Other Updates

1. RBI Restricts deposit of Old Notes.

Deposits above Rs 5000 in old currency notes can be done only once till 30 December, according to RBI’s statement. Cash amounting more than Rs 5000 will only be credited to an account after ‘satisfactory explanation’ by the depositors to 2 bank officials and that
too in KYC compliant accounts. Since demonetization of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes
almost 13 Lakh Crores have been taken out of the system.

2. Sushma Swaraj Discharged from Hospital.

Sushma Swaraj, the Indian External Affairs Minister was discharged on Monday morning after a Kidney transplant at AIIMS. Sushma Swaraj has been suffering from diabetes since last 20 years and was admitted at AIIMS on 7th December. She underwent the surgery on 10th December and doctors discharged her after a steady recovery.

3. Maulana Masood Azhar named in NIA’s Chargesheet.

Concluding the investigation of Pathankot Airbase Attack which claimed the lives of seven people and left 37 injured on 2 January 2016, National Investigation Agency filed a chargesheet on Monday naming Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Maulana Masood Azhar, his brother Rauf Azhar, Qashif Jan and Shaid Latif as accused.

The charge sheet included fingerprint and DNA samples obtained during the investigation and India will now use this information to highlight the role of Azhar in Pathankot Attack at International assemblies.

4. Rs 5 Lakh Looted from Cash Van.

Three masked men looted an ATM Cash van in Delhi’s Pandav Nagar area when the driver took out the bags carrying cash for a SBI ATM. One of the accused got off the motorcycle and snatched the bag before fleeing from the spot. The driver was accompanied by an armed security guard but he couldn’t do anything due to the sudden attack. Delhi Police is investigating the case and the accused yet to be held.

5. Karun Nair Becomes the youngest indian player to score a triple hundred in International Test Cricket.

Karun Nair played an impressive innings in the 5th test match between India and England and scored unbeaten 303 runs. The player became the youngest Indian to achieve this feat at the age of 25 years. India declared their innings at 759/7, giving a trail of 282 runs to England Team. India is leading the series with 3-0 and they must be looking for whitewashing the visitors.

6. Sensex Closes at 2-Weeks Low.

BSE Benchmark closed at a two week low of 26,375 after a 115 pointer dive due to continuous fund outflow. NSE Nifty also tumbled to 8,104.35 after losing 35.10 points.
