1. Haseena Faras Becomes The New Mayor Of Kolhapur

The candidate of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)  Haseena Faras became the new mayor of Kolhapur on Thursday. Faras defeated the Smita Mane (Tararani Front candidate) by a margin of 11 votes. This is for the first time when a Muslim woman has been elected as a Mayor in Kolhapur. Arjun Mane of Congress defeated Vijaysinh Khade Patil of BJP by the same margin and became Deputy Mayor.

2. Tamil Nadu Is Mourning Over Jayalalithaa’s Death With Silent Marches And Prayers!

Prayer Meetings were held and silent processions were taken out for the third day today in Tamil Nadu to condole J Jayalalithaa demise. People gathered around the MGR Memorial, paid homage and offered prayers. City Police Commissioner S George held consultations with officials over arrangements so that people can pay their homage peacefully.

3. Arun Jaitley Announces Several Discounts To Promote Cashless Transactions.

On Thursday, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that petrol and diesel would be cheaper for those who pay by cards. He said that people who use digital payment mode will get  0.75% discount. He also stated, people who buy monthly seasonal tickets in the Suburban railway networks through digital payment mode will also get 0.75% discount.

Arun said ‘ RBI has been releasing currency as per schedule. The aim of demonetization has been to move towards digital transactions.’

4. Income Tax Raid On Chennai Jewellery Shops, 90Cr Cash And 100 kg Gold Seized.

On Thursday, Income Tax investigation wing officials raided several Chennai-based jewellery shops to recover black money. Rs 90 crore has been seized in which Rs 80 crore were in the  form of demonetised currencies and Rs 10 crore were in the form of new currencies.

They also seized  100 kg of gold worth Rs 30 crore. The raid started in the morning this day and they raided at eight jewellery shops in T Nagar, at residence of jewellery shop owners in Anna Nagar and also at a city hotel.

5. Gigi Hadid Wins International Model of the Year Title.

Gigi Hadid just won the title of  Model of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. This year has been splendid for her, she launched a fashion line with Tommy Hilfiger, hosted the American Music Awards and also became “Instagram’s person who gained the most followers”, according to Teen Vogue.
