Person of the year is a title given by Time Magazine every year, since 1927, to the most influential person of the year. The title can be given to any prominent personality, from a president to an entrepreneur, protester to activists, astronauts to a journalist. A list containing, some of the most prominent personalities all around the world is made, which is further put out for public polling. The people on this list reflect a person, or an idea, that has most influenced the news and the world in the past year. The influence can be a positive or a negative one.
In this year’s poll, India’s Prime Minister is leading the public poll with a whopping 21%, which is kind of shocking as none of the other candidates on the poll is not even close to PM Modi. In fact, none of the candidate’s public poll even contributes to a double digit percentile. The Time magazine also gave out the dates and reasons for which each of the candidates was most talked about on the Internet. For Narendra Modi, it was October 16 when he suggested that one of India’s neighbouring country, that is Pakistan, is the mothership of Terrorism.
After PM Modi, Julian Assange is on the second position with 8% public votes. Julian Assange is the founder of Wikileaks, which was in the news a lot in the past year because of their involvement with Hillary Clinton’s candidacy for US President position. However, on October 4 Assange said that Wikileaks would release documents that were significant to US selection, and this was his most talked about move of the year.

These public polls do not contribute in anyway to the final selection of Time’s Person Of The Year title, as the power is solely rested with Time’s editors. However, it does give an insight into which major figures in the world have shaped the world in their possible way.
This year’s title can be crowned to President-elect Donald Trump, as from past many years the same have been seen. It is common to give the title to President-elects, Bill Clinton won the title in 1992, George W. Bush won the title twice in 2000 and 2014. President Barack Obama also won the title two times in the year of his win, that is 2008 and 2012.
The final winner of Time’s Person Of The Year would be revealed on 7 December 2016.
