On Monday, PM Narendra Modi marked the 75th anniversary of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and dedicated seven new developed varieties of plants to the nation. Modi also interacted with the farmers.
At the Vigyan Bhawan where the CSIR marked its 75th foundation day, PM Modi stated that ‘no country would progress without the use of science and technology’.
He also said that’ the contribution of CSIR to the country in last 75 years increases country’s hope from them as people only expect from those who can deliver’.
He also expressed concern upon mitigating the gaps between science and research to the industry and common user and said that – Sometimes inventions are kept away from the common man and we need to shorten those gaps.
He interacted with the farmers of five states through video conferencing and encouraged them to brand their products for better marketing.
While talking to a farmer from Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, he said that farmers should try to give a specific name to their product as this would provide them with a unique identity and will also increase their marketing prospects.
Modi expressed happiness while interacting with a farmer from Jorhat as he was a botany student. He said that it makes him happy that a botany student chose to return to the farming as many don’t. He also added that we need such spirit in farmers.
Prime Minister Modi also interacted with the farmers of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Himachal Pradesh.
The new plants were developed by the CSIR laboratories that have ornamental and medicinal qualities. Mostly developed in Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) these plants have new varieties of vetiver, citronella, canna lily plant and lemongrass.
