Normalcy Returns To Violence-Hit Bengaluru Over Cauvery Row.

Curfew has been lifted from 16 police station limits, in the violence-hit Bengaluru from 9am on Wednesday. The city faced a lot of violence in past few days over Supreme Court’s judgement on how Karnataka should share Cauvery water with their neighbour, Tamil Nadu.

Police Commissioner NS Megharikh says ban order under section 144 of the CrPC on assembling of more than five persons at public places and populated areas continues till further order to ensure peace and prevent any untoward incident”. Bangalore city police tweeted earlier this morning about the uplifting of ban in the 16 police station along with their names and locations.

Transportation options like auto, bus, taxi and metro have resumed their services, due to which many can commute to and from their workplace and office in the city. A majority of schools and colleges would be shut due to Onam festival holiday which means that kids would be secured in the violence and curfew-hit areas. Those who are planning to travel outside the state can make use of Inter-state buses, trains and flights that are operating on schedule.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is trying to fix a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and discuss the situation and ask for his help in the inter-state water dispute. An official from Chief Minister’s’ office says “Siddaramaiah is waiting for an appointment with the Prime Minister from the PMO (Prime Minister’s Office) to go to New Delhi as there is no response yet”.

2 people are dead till now in this violent protest over Cauvery water dispute, while one died on Monday in police firing, the other one died on Tuesday due to various injuries that he acquired in the on-going protest.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Government on Tuesday decided to obey Supreme Court’s order to release 12,000 cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu till 20th September. They have also warned that anyone indulging in violence would be dealt with “iron-hand”.
