New Delhi: Calling for a major embarrassment, Assam government on Saturday included a two year old photograph of Bangladesh floods in the interim report on state floods submitted to the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Assam CM Sarabnanda Sonowal had handed over the report, which carried nine photographs, to Singh who was on a day long visit to oversee the conditions in the state.
Out of the Nine pics, one was of 2014 Narakohi floods (Bangladesh), which shows a boy rescuing a deer amid heavy floods.
When pointed out, senior officials accepted the goof up but put the blame on DCs for forwarding the incorrect picture to the state capital.
“It is a big mistake. We accept it. Actually some DCs have forwarded this to us because of similarity with situation in Kaziranga National Park”; a leading news channel reported quoting a senior official.
The residents in and around Kaziranga are, reportedly, rescuing animals as the national park is submerged in water.
While the photo faux pas has left the state government red faced, a senior civil service officer has been placed under suspension.
Madhumita Bhagaboty, Civil SDO of Kaliabor sub-division in Nagaon district has been primarily held responsible for the faux pas and is suspended from immediate effect.
