There’s a good reason for every Delhi metro commuter to get excited because the officials at Delhi Metro Rail Corporations (DMRC) have announced that parts of the pink line will be launched on March 14th.
According to DMRC, the 21.56-km Majlis Park-Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus corridor will be inaugurated by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tomorrow at 4 pm from Metro Bhawan. “Passenger services on the stretch will begin from 6 pm the same day from the Majlis Park and Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus stations simultaneously,” the DMRC had said in a statement recently, as reported by The Times Now.
The Pink Line spreads at an entire stretch from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar which is 58-kilometer long, however, from tomorrow, only a part of this line will start working.
The Majlis Park-Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus corridor has 12 stations in total, including three interchange stations at Azadpur, Netaji Subhash Place, and Rajouri Garden. The three interchange stations will connect commuters with Yellow Line (Huda City Centre-Samaypur Badli) at Azadpur, Red Line (Rithala-Dilshad Garden) at Netaji Subhash Place and with Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21-Noida City Centre) at Rajouri Garden.
The entire pink line in Delhi metro is considered to act as a big boon for various daily commuters, especially college students, as both the south and north campus of the university are well connected now. Earlier, students either had to travel by road, in case they need to travel to south campus from the north one, or take an Airport Line metro to Dhaula Kuan station and commute again on road.
“The two DU campuses are now connected to each other on the Delhi Metro network for the first time. It will help in cutting travel time for commuters, but benefit the students particularly, who had to travel mostly by road till now,” a senior official of the DMRC said.
The entire travel time from Vishwavidyalaya metro station to Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus is calculated to mere 40 minutes including the time for an interchange at the Azadpur station.
Out of 12 stations on the pink line, eight are elevated while the rest fall in the underground station category.
The trial runs and safety inspections on the Majlis Park – Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus stretch was completed recently, and everything appears to be good to go.
