One terrorist, belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist group was killed in an encounter in South Kashmir’s Shopian district. The encounter was carried out after launching a search operation ensuring certain intelligence input. It has also resulted in an injury of two policemen.
As per the officials, the terrorist is identified as Sadam Hussain Mir from Chatri Pora Shopian. Five AK 47 magazines, one assault rifle, one hand grenade and 119 AK 47 rounds have been recovered.
This encounter came, just a day after Indian army countered two invasions by Pakistani troops in the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. In this cross-border firing, two Indian soldiers were killed and five other were injured. These ceasefire violations, targeting civilians and defence facilities, has rapidly increased from Pakistan’s side after Indian army’s surgical strike on September 29. Pakistan had violated the ceasefire, more than 60 times, since that surgical strike.
According to Indian army officials, Pakistan has been constantly moving towards baseless firing, and Indian army is just reciprocating to it. However, in the midst of all this, eight soldiers and eight civilians are dead due to cross-border firing with Pakistan, in the span of last two weeks.
