More Than 1 Lakh Students Are Appearing For 10th And 12th Exams In Kashmir

Kashmir has been on a bandh, ever since the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen militant Burhan Wani. However, starting from today more than 1 Lakh students would be appearing for their senior secondary school exams in the valley. Over 45,000 students are appearing for their 12th standard exam (on Monday) and more than 55,000 students are appearing for their 10th standard exam (on Tuesday).

The school session in Kashmir works from October to October every year, following a long winter vacation, but this year, the students haven’t attended more than 4 months of the school session. This ongoing unrest has directly affected the lives and future of many students in the valley. They were given a choice between November and March, for their final exams, and a 50% syllabus relaxation has been provided to those who would go for November exams.

These November exams would have a huge influence on many students that are giving their 12th exams. As on one side, it is no less than a golden chance to score exceptionally good marks, but at the same time, there are some who feel that this slack would negatively affect their future. Some also think, that appearing for November exams would help them in preparing for various college level entrances (which is almost 6 months away).

The government is trying their best to carry out these exams peacefully and without any disruption, they have promised foolproof security and secured transport arrangements for the students. More than 25 schools have been burnt down till now in the valley, due to the decision of re-opening them, which is all the more alarming for the students.
