Lenovo has finally launched its much awaited Zuke Edge smartphone in China with a starting price of CNY 2,299 (Rs 22,500) making it the cheapest smartphone carrying a Snapdragon 821 processor under the hood. A 6GB RAM model is also made available, making it the ‘sprinter’ of smartphone business.
Lenovo ZUK Edge boasts an almost bezel less design with a 5.5-inch FHD large screen having 86.4 per cent body ratio. It is powered by quad-core Snapdragon 821 SoC processor clocked at 2.35 GHz paired with Adreno 530 GPU and 4GB/6GB of RAM. ZUK Edge comes with 64GB of internal storage which can be expanded upto 256GB via microSD card. Camera duties will be performed by a 13-megapixel camera with a 1.34-micron pixel ISOCELL sensor from Samsung , an f/2.2 aperture, PDAF+CAF hybrid autofocus, at the rear and an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture and 1.12-micron pixel sensor in the front.
This is the first smartphone from Lenovo featuring a Snapdragon 821 processor and the company has left no stone unturned in order to haunt many flagship devices from other companies. Under the glass fingerprint scanner that can unlock Lenovo ZUK Edge within 0.09 seconds is another first from the company. However, this was first introduced by Xiaomi in Mi 5 which made it an instant hit.
Wanting to compete with premium smartphones, Lenovo has also introduced built-in blood oxygen heart rate sensor and other interesting features like pneumatic altimeter and a UV light sensor.
Corning Gorilla Glass, Dual Sim (nano/microSD), Android Nougat 7.0 out of the box, 4G VoLTE (with support for Indian LTE bands), Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.1, USB Type-C port, Weighs 160 grams, accelerometer, ambient light sensor, gyroscope, magnetometer, proximity sensor.
Lenovo ZUK Edge, being from the same bloodline as that of Samsung Galaxy S7, was expected to come with a dual curved edge display but ZUK Edge’s design not even come close to Galaxy S7.
Lenovo will definitely market ZUK Edge as a flagship device but the 3100 mAh battery doesn’t fit in this price bracket. However, the LPDDR4 RAM could be a reason behind this. LPDDR4 results in faster speed and low consumption of power and only future will tell how good this technology actually is.
Lenovo have finally learned from Xiaomi and even went one step ahead by introducing mouthwatering features like 6GB RAM, Under the glass fingerprint scanner and blood oxygen heart rate sensor that not many premium smartphones can boast.
Bang on Price: With the 4GB RAM variant priced at 2,229 Yuan (Rs 22,500) and 6GB variant at 2,499 Yuan (Rs 24,500), Lenovo ZUK Edge has the highest VFM in this price bracket.
Lenovo has not confirmed the Launch date of ZUK Edge in India but it is expected to be launched before the next financial year. Once launched, the phone will enter in direct competition with OnePlus 3T, Mi5, LeEco LeMax 2 among others. However, considering the current preferences of Indian customers, Lenovo ZUK Edge will probably be welcomed with open arms in India.
