How Does India Plan To Counter Drone Strikes, Like The Ones Seen At J&K?

“You cannot sit idle when struck by terror; you must act proactively and prepare for a response!”

Most terror states nowadays have a strategy that involves the usage of drones. Drones have, after all, in this day and age of high-tech and sophisticated warfare, become the go-to weapon with which to strike announced. However, what India needs is something like a well-planned out and carefully-conceived counter-drone strategy and policy. And truth be told, it does appear that those days aren’t far when India will have a well thought of plan with which to respond to perpetrators who know nothing about the ‘P’ of peace!

In the recent days, what served an absolute shocker was to witness a drone-directed strike at the J&K region, already sensitive to attacks and unforeseen terror-marked incidents. But, highly mistaken are those who thought that the country would sit quiety and do nothing about it. As a matter of fact, India has already identified a system and technology, which will enable the country with a massive defence force to successfully counter what are called ‘rogue drones.’

And this counter drone policy, which has been intricately conceived shall, in the coming days, help reverse the threat posed by rogue agents like drones for, to put it succinctly, the country cannot afford incidents like the recent strike at the Air Force station in Jammu.

To further take cognisance of just how India prepared for its future-oriented ‘counter-strike,’ a high-level meeting has already been held that involved none other than the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The meeting that was held on Tuesday, i.e., June 29, 2021, tabled various measures and strategies to counter, “weaponised drones used for terror purposes against strategic and commercial assets,” as how one official statement put it.

And truth be told, conducting a high-level meeting in almost the immediate aftermath of the J&K incident is only fair and timely action, for the country cannot afford to operate with lax measures.

Part of the important meet were also the country’s Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, as well as the Home Minister Amit Shah.

What India needs to do now is to carefully avert situations like the blast that took place at the important air base in J&K recently and to be fully prepared to negate such nefarious attacks in the course of the future.

Elaborating more on the current situation and what the government is planning, here’s what NDTV had to say:

Two Indian Air Force personnel suffered minor injuries in the explosions that took place a little before 2 am at the high security airport located around 14 kilometres from the border with Pakistan.

“Across the North Western sector (Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab), regular deployment of a counter-drone system is needed. A comprehensive policy in the national interest is being worked out,” a senior official disclosed.

The government has decided that Indian Air Force will be the nodal agency to deal with such technology. The same official would also happen to add, “There is no universal policy to deal with rogue drones, so a combination of techniques needs to used depending on the vitality of an asset.”

But to conclude, what’s important to note is that when needed, India will also rope in its highly-sophisticated tech-intel agency, the revered National Technical Research Organisation in efforts to counter malicious drone-perpetrated attacks.
