The Hurun Global Unicorn List 2019 is just out and along with the list, hundreds of startup dreams are also coming alive since now, India is the third-largest successful startup ecosystem in the world with a total of 25 unicorn startups to its name. India comes right behind China and the US, in terms of ranking and just ahead of Britain and Israel.
India has 3rd most amount of Startup Unicorns in the world and it stands right behind China and the US.
Over the course of the past few years, the dreams of having your own startup are turning into a reality for a bunch of people from all over the country and class, and this has taken the country to the position it’s at right now.
We have grown from the habitat of security and monotony, and now people want to bring that disruption to society and the workforce with a bunch of different and unique ideas. This mentality has given birth to companies like Paytm, Ola, Oyo, Zomato and so many more that now feature in the list of Unicorn startups and are now even venturing into international markets.
Leading the list of top unicorn startups is the payments solution app One97 Communications ($10 Billion), cab aggregator Ola Cabs ($6 Billion), online educator Byju’s ($6 Billion) and travel-stay finder and solutions Oyo Rooms ($5 Billion).
Ahead of India lists China and the US. Interestingly, it is not the US that has churned out the most number of unicorn startups this year but rather China. While China leads with 206 startups, the US comes in second with 203 startups. Together, both countries account for some 80 percent of the world’s unicorns.
The research found out that there are some 494 Unicorns in the world that are based in 25 countries and 118 cities. On average, these unicorns have been set up some seven years ago with an average worth of $3.4 billion. In total, all of these 494 unicorns account for $1.7 trillion which was also the Global Military spends in 2017.
As per the Hurun Global Unicorn List 2019, city-wise Beijing is the unicorn capital of the world with a total of 82 startups. The second city on the list is San Francisco with a total of 55 unicorns. Following these two cities are Shanghai, New York and Hangzhou.
Ecommerce and fintech unicorns make up to 31 percent of the world’s unicorns, following these two are cloud-based and AI unicorn startups. The world’s unicorns span over 25 industries and the big 5 industries are actually making up half the total.
Some of the exciting unicorns from India that have placed the country on start-ups maps include online grocery startup Bigbasket, Indian logistics startup Rivigo, cloud data protection and management startup Druva, e-commerce and logistics startup Delhivery, gaming startup Dream 11, Ola’s EV arm – Ola Electric, contract management startup Icertis and many more.
