1. GST Roll Out: Rahul Gandhi Says That Modi Government Is Incompetent And Insensitive

Goods and Services Tax (GST), which is the biggest financial reform the country has witnessed since Independence, is all set to be rolled out at 12 am on July 1 and in an unprecedented as well as one of its kind move, the Parliament is going to hold a midnight joint session, marking the historic move. However, the Opposition has clearly opposed the Goods And Services Tax rollout and they will be boycotting the midnight joint session of Parliament.

Moreover, Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) representative will be the only one from the opposition who will attend this unprecedented session. While Trinamool Congress has also boycotted the event, INC’s Rahul Gandhi has called the event a “publicity gimmick” as well as “tamasha”.

2. Jharkhand: Section 144 Imposed in Ramgarh After The lynching Incident

Section 144 has been imposed by the authorities in Ramgarh area of Jharkhand after a Muslim beef trader was lynched to death by an angry mob while he was traveling in his Omni Van carrying the meat. The incident came on the same day when Prime Minister Narendra, during his emotional speech, requested everyone to stop violence in the name of Gau Bhakti.

3. India-China Border Standoff: Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Through Nathu La Pass Cancelled

Kailash Mansarovar Yatra through Sikkim’s Nathu La Pass has been canceled and the decision came in the aftermath of continuing tensions on the India-China border and a face-off between the both the countries’ troops on the Sikkim border. While Chinese authorities have issued visas to the pilgrims of the first two batches, the applications of the next two batches have been put on hold due to tensions with India that are showing no signs of easing. On Tuesday, the China had accused the Indian military of stopping them to construct a road in the in the Sikkim sector, which China has claimed to be its “sovereign territory”.

4. Germany Legalises Same-Sex Marriage

On Friday, the German Parliament legalized same-sex marriage, and the announcement came days after Chancellor Angela Merkel stated that she would allow lawmakers from Conservative Party to give their opinion on the bill based on their own conscience. However, when the bill was presented in the Parliament, Merkel herself voted against the proposal that gives full marital rights to gay and lesbian couples, including child adoption.

5. Sensex And Nifty End In Green, Rupee Strengthens Against US Dollar

BSE’s Benchmark Sensex closed at 30,921.61 by the end of Friday’s trade after gaining 64.09 points as the market got ready for the GST rollout and took to optimistic buying ahead of its implementation, while getting ready for initial hiccups. NSE’s Nifty also ended higher by 16.80 points and settled above the 9500 mark at 9,520.90. Indian Rupee, on the other hand, strengthened by 5 paise against the US Dollar on sustained demand by exporters and banks. The greenback was valued at Rs 64.58 by the end of Friday’s trade.
