Former PM Manmohan Singh Admitted To Hospital

Aged 87, former Prime Minister Shri Manmohan Singh, among the leading political luminaries of the country has been admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, located in the heart of the national capital complaining of chest pain.

He was admitted at around 8.40 pm at night on May 10, 2020 and is presently being kept under observation at the famous medical facility’s cardio-thoraric ward.

It’s important to note that the former Prime Minister of India, who also served in the capacity as the nation’s Finance Minister in past terms has been kept in a hospital room, not the Intensive Care Unit (or the ICU).

At present, Mr. Manmohan Singh is under the care and supervision of famous expert Dr. Nitish Naik, a professor of cardiology at the AIIMS in New Delhi.

Singh is a senior leader of the opposition Congress and currently represents Rajasthan in the Upper House of Parliament. He was the prime minister between 2004 and 2014.

Surely, at a period of time in the world’s history where much of the planet continues to be in a state of an absolute lockdown, there’s nothing astoundingly positive anyways that’s been occurring from any part of the world.

One of the politest, quietest, and simplistic political leaders of the country of all times, Mr. Manmohan Singh, truth be told, is a bit of a polarising figure.

While there’s nothing that can malign or riddle his career or stature as a clean-hearted leader dedicated to the cause of the country, in a long political journey, Mr. Singh also managed to earn some brickbats (just as he earned bouquets) for not being the most active or vocal leader, often choosing quiet over causes and actions that perhaps desired more affirmative action from the political supremo of the country.

He was also often mocked for being, quite simply, a puppet in the hands of Ms. Sonia Gandhi and the larger Gandhi family, instead of being a leader that would govern the democratic nation through active and wholehearted decisions that would encounter corruption, end political bigotry and shun cast politics in the nation.

As a matter of fact, Mr. Manmohan Singh also happens to be the first and thus far, only Prime Minister from Congress, after the late-great Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after a full five-year term.

Of course, there’s little doubting the fact that in his career, he has also raised the graph of political representation of the Sikhs in the country, having been the first Sikh to lead the country in the capacity of its Prime Minister.

During the 70s and 80s, when he was at his physical and intellectual peak, Dr. Manmohan Singh, who was also a lecturer at the Panjab University (from 1957-59) held several key posts in the Government of India, and also served as the governor of the Central Bank of India, the respected Reserve Bank of India.

It is also important to note that while he was never really considered too political an individual, having been touted as more of a apolitical personality.

One wishes Dr. Manmohan Singh a speedy and healthy recovery. May he recuperate and get back to his best soon.
