It was back in 2019 wherein Rahul Gandhi had resigned in the capacity of the President of his party. In these two years, where the BJP, the chief antithesis to all losses you’d attribute to the Congress party, has only grown in strength. Rather, it may not be wrong to say, the party has significantly grown in dominance over the country. The recent example of the BJP rising at the gates of West Bengal, where until now the TMC had a stronghold, is a clear case in point.
Moreover, elsewhere in the country there’s been a growing feeling that there’s hardly any strong opposition to challenge the absolute, seemingly unsurpassable authority of the BJP, which is the sole reason why the ruling party has grown strong in its size.
Now whatever might be the reason, fact is that the Congress party needs to bounce back. And whether that objective can be achieved by the most recent development (as per the last few hours) with regards to the Delhi Congress is still worth a debate.
But confirmed news is that the Delhi Congress has passed the resolution to make Rahul Gandhi the party president with immediate effect. In terms of the effectiveness of the decision, one still notes that there’s a lot of time to gather whether the brand new move is a bold one or not, but perhaps its only fair to say that the action might have been initiated to give the most vocal and visible face in the Congress party a new shot at the overall leadership.
It’s hardly a surprise or any fascinating development to note that the one man singularly raising his voice against the ongoing incident concerning the farmers’ agitation from the behalf of the Congress party has been none other than Rahul Gandhi.
As per the Delhi Congress’ decision, which came into effect sometime on January 31, 2021, it must be noted that the AICC-in charge, Shakti Singh Gohil was the gentleman who happened to pass the said resolution (that centred on Rahul Gandhi) in a party meeting. Present in the party meeting were several senior Congress leaders.
Now, moving on, various news media outlets had different things to say on the matter, with NDTV’s news report stating:
The resolution, expected to trigger a series of similar declarations by other state units, comes days after the party said organisational polls would be held in June – after Assembly elections in several key states, including Bengal and Tamil Nadu. That announcement came after a tempestuous meeting of the CWC (Congress Working Committee) – the party’s highest decision-making body.
Meanwhile, the following excerpts were from a news report from the Hindustan Times stable:
The resolution also alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government passed the three contentious farm laws with ulterior motives and without any discussion with stakeholders — the farmers’ unions and the opposition.

All of that said, it remains to be seen when might the scion of the Gandhi parivaar actually assume leadership of the famous political party, one steeped in polarization as also a great verve of leadership dating back to several decades.
Importantly, will Rahul Gandhi be able to forge a bright new second inning as the leader, depending on how soon the development (taking charge of the party leadership) takes place?
