India is known by many names – the largest democracy in the world, a land of hundreds of languages, millions of gods, billions of people, the highest number of doctors, engineers and scientists, a developing country, and so much more. However, our existence is still being levelled to curry – something that wasn’t even Indian in the first place. People from all over the world have often subjugated the massive variety of Indian food under the umbrella of curry, and we’re not even mad about it until it’s used as a racist slur for Indians and that is right what Curry Police by Japanese YouTuber Candy Fox did.
Candy Fox is a Japanese YouTuber with over 1 million followers, and a few days ago he released the song “Curry Police” which is nothing short of a highly ridiculous jab at Indians.
The video has some of the most obnoxious lyrics, scenes and the overall plot which is nothing but a massive piece of stereotyping 1.3 billion people in a negative and offensive light. As soon as the video was uploaded, it received massive backlash from both Indians and some Japanese people. Since the massive criticism, the creator has made the video private, however, many have re-uploaded the deleted video.
Curry Police: Candy Fox
*This is not the full video and more like the first half of it, and trust us, the second half is even more cringe and distasteful.
Just have a look at this video and you’ll understand the cause behind all the backlash.
The music video is about a Rajasthani man who does not like anything in the world, except for curry and now he has made his life’s mission to transform the entire world’s food into Curry, starting right from Japan. However, before he reaches Japan there is a whole load of drama that entangles and the same can be seen afterwards.
The primary reason behind all the backlash that the music video is receiving, is how Internationally the image of one such large country is polluted. More importantly, it creates a false image and is made as a mockery towards a certain group of people.
Another person that has been under the backlash is another Japanese YouTuber Kohei, from Namaste Kohei, who is known for reacting to Indian Pop Culture and making covers of Indian song on Violin. He is also featured in the video, even though he has a 2 million-strong Indian fan base.
After the video started going viral, various Indian YouTubers and Celebs started coming out with their support to take the video down. And, since then, both the creator of Curry Police and Kohei has issued an apology.
In addition to that, the Embassy of Japan in India has also released a statement on the issue, sighting the complaints they have received on the video. They also mentioned that various Indians, as well as, Japanese individuals have also raised that complaint of their friends being portrayed in a negative light.
Now, even though the video has been made private by the creator, many are raising their voice to completely delete the video so that no money can be earned from it.

All this is very saddening, especially in a time like today where we all are continuing to become global citizens and more woke than before. We need to understand the gravity of our words and actions toward any group and those who try to create a mockery out of it, should certainly be held accountable for it.
