A portion of a flyover that was under construction collapsed in Kolkata. At least ten people were killed in the incident. The flyover collapsed over taxis and other vehicles in the congested posta area. Seven people were rescued from the incident site and rushed into the Calcutta Medical College and hospital.
Several people were reported trapped under the debris at the spot in the northern part of the metropolis. Police officers told that two bodies have been extricated.
Hundreds of locals and disaster management teams joined the rescue and relief operations. Trauma care teams also helped people at the site.

A witness told that there was a sudden thundering noise and the Vivekananda Flyover came crashing down.
He told that the flyover fell over taxis, rickshaws and other vehicles. He said “More than 150 people must have been (buried) beneath it… It is a huge loss of human life.”
More than 150 people are trapped under the debris, blood is splattered all over the road. A witness said that it collapsed like there was some bomb blast.
Since Kolkata is the venue of this Sunday’s World T20 cricket final, this destruction can cause a huge loss of audience.
