1. Government Resumed Service Charges On Debit Card Transactions.
After the note ban on 8 November 2016, the Government announced that the transactions made by debit cards would not be levied any transaction charges until 31 December 2106. Meanwhile, starting from 1 January 2017, the government has resumed the charges on debit card transactions. A service charge of 0.25% will be applicable on the transactions worth Rs. 1000 and 0.5% will be levied on transactions worth Rs. 2000. The Charges on credit cards remain unchanged.
2. A Car Bomb Killed 32 People In Baghdad.
On Monday, a car bomb killed 32 people and wounded 61 people in Baghdad’s sprawling Sadr City district. Many people who lost their lives were daily laborers. This is the second major attack in Baghdad after 2017 kicked in. On Saturday, 27 people were killed by twin explosions in a busy market in central Baghdad. Though the recent blast has not been claimed by any group but the twin bombing on New Year’s Eve has claimed by the Islamic State jihadist group.
3. Sri Lanka To Release The Captured Fishermen Of India.
As part of the Confidence Building Measures (CBMS), Sri Lanka and India both decided to release fishermen in each other’s custody. The decision is a big breakthrough in long-running fishermen issue. Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Radha Mohan Singh and his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Amaraweera had a meeting and agreed to ‘Consider’ Indian fishing boats too. An official source revealed that Sri Lanka will release 51 Indian Fishermen and India will release three Fishermen in return. The important part of the procedure is that Sri Lanka will not only hand over the Fishermen but also release the fishing boats that had taken away from them.
4. PM Modi Slams Congress And SP In Lucknow Rally.
The Father-son Drama Of SP is still stirring hot and BJP couldn’t have chosen a better time for Prime Minister’s Parivartan Rally. Narendra Modi addressed the people of Lucknow today and in the very beginning of BJP’s massive election campaign, he made sure that he took all the right digs at the entire opposition. In one go he established that only BJP can save UP as one party is trying to establish their leader, other is trying to save money and another is trying to save the family, referring to Congress, BSP, and SP. Modi also predicted the win of BJP in UP and promised prosperity and growth of the state.
