New Delhi: In an inhuman incident, a 24-year old youth has been arrested for thrashing an elderly couple at their mobile shop in Sector 18 of Chandigarh.
The accused named Rajeev, who is a driver by profession, is the resident of sector 19 and is the neighbour of the victims Joginderpal Soni, 58, and his wife Santosh Kumari, 56. He has been booked under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 452 (house-trespass) and 506 (criminal intimidation) for beating the duo.
As per reports, he was there to meet couple’s son for his handset but started assault after an argument.
The entire incident of brutal assault got captured on the CCTV camera installed in the shop, following which the case was filed against the man.
The disturbing CCTV footage run by several news channels shows the man repeatedly slapping and punching the old couple. He was also spotted damaging their mobile shop.
While this inhuman incident was happening, the people standing nearby didn’t come to rescue and instead chose to be mere spectators.
Santosh and Jogindarpal have suffered multiple injuries and the accurate nature of wounds will be clear after the medical report comes out, said the police sources.
The accused in his defense stated that he was furious at Santosh Kumari since she allegedly said some “bad words” about his mother.
However, son of the victim couple is the friend of the accused and has insisted on making a compromise on the issue.
“We received a call that a youth had assaulted an elderly couple in Sector 18, following which we reached the spot. When we enquired from the victims, they were not ready to lodge a complaint. We initially registered a daily diary report but later when we checked the CCTV footage, we arrested the accused,” the SHO said.
The accused is highly bashed over social media after the video went viral. People have described the man as shameless, inhuman and devil.
We hope he gets the punishment for his bad deeds so that nobody dares to repeat the same in future.
