2 people were killed and 40 others were reported injured after 15 bogies of Ajmer-Sealdah Express derailed near Kanpur in the wee hours of Wednesday. The mishap took place near the Rura Railway Station, 50 kms from Kanpur, at 5:20 am. Rescue team was rushed to the site and all the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. Dense fog and moisture were reported to be the reasons behind the derailment and rescue operations are still underway.
Bihar Government approved 50% reservation for the posts in subordinate and superior judicial services. Appointments by Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) to fill the posts of judicial magistrates and munsif magistrates and appointments by Patna High Court for posts of additional district and sessions judges will come under the new rule. 21% posts will be reserved for Extremely Backward Class (EBC), 16% for Scheduled Castes (SC), 12% for Backward Class and 1% for Scheduled Tribe (ST).
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has arrested Kotak Mahindra’s Branch Manager for allegedly creating fake accounts and assisting money launderers. The arrest came weeks after Crime Branch detained two officials of Kotak Mahindra Bank for creating several fake accounts having unaccounted deposits worth Rs 34 crore.
Central bureau of Investigation summoned two TMC MPs, Sudip Bandyopadhyay and Tapas Paul, for a hearing on 30 December relating to the Rose Valley scam. According to the investigations, Rose Valley Group cheated millions of investors from over 10 states and illegally made over Rs 17000 cr in the scam.
A boat carrying 45 passengers including Ugandan football team players sunk at Lake Albert in Western Uganda. The team was travelling to Runga for a friendly game when the accident took place. Officials reported that the boat was carrying more people than the capacity which caused it to capsize. They further added that, 15 passengers have survived while 9 have been reported dead and the number could increase to 30 as search operations are still underway.
52 trains were delayed and 10 were rescheduled due to dense fog on Wednesday morning in Northern India. Bhubaneswar Rajdhani Express was running over 24 hours behind schedule, Swatantrata Senani Express was over 20 hours late and Sealdah Rajdhani Express was running 23 hours behind its schedule. However, aviation was moderately affected and no flights have been cancelled or delayed.
BSE’s Sensex rose to 26,283.60 after a 70.16 pointer growth while NSE’s 50 companies benchmark also gained 24.75 points and reached 8,057.60 points during the early trade on Wednesday.
