792% Spike In Honour Killing Cases In 2015 And 4 Other Stories

1. A 792% increase in honour killing cases has been reported in the year 2015.

251 honour killing cases were reported in the year 2015, as compared to 28 in 2014. The data was gathered by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), and it is being said that most of such cases in the country earlier went unreported or were considered a murder. One of the major revelation from this data came from Uttar Pradesh, while in 2014 a single case was registered in the state, in 2015 UP topped the list with 131 honour killing cases.

2. Indian Navy all ready to rescue 800 stranded tourists on Havelock Island in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

The Indian Navy is trying their best to evacuate 800 stranded tourists from Havelock Island. However, the rescue operation is facing major problems due to heavy rainfall on the island. It has been said that the tourists would be transferred to Port Blair. INS Bitra, Kumbhir, Bangaram and LCU 38 are sent for the rescue operation.

3. RBI announced that no PIN would be required for online transactions up to Rs 2000

Reserve Bank of India announced that no PIN would be required for online transactions as well as, for all card-not-present payments up to Rs 2000. In order to avail this service, customers would have to go through one-time registration with the entry of their card details. After that, no PIN would be required from the registered customers.

4. Apple Inc. has paid almost Rs 3 crore fine due to hazardous waste violations.

Apple Inc. paid Rs 3 crore for their operation and closing of two hazardous waste processing plants because of missing paperwork to California environmental regulators. Almost 8 Lakh kilograms of electronic waste was created by both of these plants. However, Apple described it as “an oversight in paperwork” which did not affect their health and safety standards.

Tennis World No. 2 Novak Djokovic splits up with his coach Boris Becker after 3 years. Djokovic won 6 out of his 12 major titles under Becker’s coaching. However, there was a huge slump in his form from past six months, which seems to be the major reason behind their parted way. The pair first started working together in December 2013.
