AAP Government in Delhi approved a mega project of the fourth phase of the Delhi Metro that will add another 104 km to the length of the currently operational 213 km metro corridors.
This phase of Delhi Metro will take the mass rapid transit to the outer parts of National Capital. The fourth phase will introduce six new lines and the construction will start in 2017. The construction of the project is expected to end in three years and it will cost around Rs 55,000 crore. This 104-km network is expected to carry 1.5 million passengers regularly.
This 140 kilometres of Metro network is expected to ease up the traffic of Delhi and its outer areas.
The six lines will be from Tughlakabad to Terminal 1, Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block, Janakpuri(West) to RK Ashram, Inderlok to Indraprastha and Mukundpur to Maujpur.
The transport minister of Delhi Satyendra Jain stated, “We have approved the proposal of construction of Metro Phase IV submitted by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.”
Phase III of metro is expected to be completed by December 2016 and DMRC was seeking approval for phase IV for more than a year. Finally, the Delhi government approved the proposal of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
This new phase will be more beneficial for residents of South Delhi as they will be able to hop on a direct metro to the Airpot from nearer localities. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation proposed to build a 20-km-long corridor between the existing Aerocity and Tughlakabad but now they will build it to the Terminal 1 station only. The metro line will reach to the dense areas such as Vasant Kunj, Sangam Vihar, Mahipalpur, Mehrauli and Saket in south Delhi.
