40 Dead and 100 Injured In Parts Of Rajasthan & UP Due To The Sand Storm

While Delhi last night took a breath of fresh and refreshing air with droplets of rain here and there, certain parts of Rajasthan and western Uttar Pradesh something horrific which resulted in too many deaths and injuries.

Last night the weather in Northern parts of India took a shift and turned inclement for the people in Rajasthan and UP. A high-intensity squall followed by thundershower hit parts of Rajasthan Wednesday night, killing 24 people and injuring several others. In Uttar Pradesh, at least 50 people were killed on Wednesday after a dust storm hit the state. State Revenue and Relief Commissioner said that Agra was the most affected district, adding that reliefs will be given to victims within 24 hours.

Several houses and electricity polls collapsed and trees uprooted in the Matsya region causing the most amount of physical damage to the property.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje expressed her grief over the incident and announced that immediate relief work has already begun in various parts of the state. As well as, the restoration process is also on its way.

In the wake of the disaster, Congress national general secretary Ashok Gehlot has cancelled his birthday celebrations at his official residence in Jaipur. “We are extremely grieved at the loss of lives in the state and stand with the victims in this hour of tragedy… I cancel all celebrations at my residence today. Blood donation camps and Janhit programs can be continued by organisers,” he said. According to Gehlot, over a 100 people have been injured in the dust storm, as reported by The Indian Express.

More stringent and official reports of the disaster are still awaited, as the rescue mission and relief teams have been pressed into action.
